“I’ve never been to Lake Como.” He said. “Let’s go!” I said. A rental car and two hours later @mrclintsmith was showing off his driving prowess taking the curves of Lago di Como while I sat back in the passenger seat perfectly at ease. Confident and in control with a grace and ease that hides any nerves he might feel about driving in a foreign country, he drives the way he edits a design publication. With perfection. He’s also one of the most genuinely likable and humble guys I’ve ever met. I knew he would be. One of the privileges of my job is I often get to travel with my #designheroes. When Clint agreed to come to #Mercanteinfiera I was over the moon. Nearly a decade ago when I first met Clint it was on the day of my first speaking engagement in the USA - and the same week his appointment as editor in chief of Veranda was announced. He was there when I had an embarrassing moment and he responded with such kindness and compassion I’ve had an extreme fondness for him every since. One should always be remembered that way. As an editor what he’d done at Southern Accents and Atlanta Home had intrigued me. This guy has more than talent. He has what the French call that je ne sais quoi- more than style but a Midas Touch. Capping off his week in Venice and Parma with a day trip to Bellagio was the perfect ending to a perfect week in italia. Belissima!
